The Berry Company and the Boy Scouts Collect More Than 51,000 lbs of Outdated Directories for Recycling

LINCOLN, Neb., June 5, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Lincoln community has proven once again they have what it takes to "Think Yellow, Go Green" by recycling more than 51,000 pounds of outdated telephone directories. The annual recycling program was supported by The Berry Company, LLC, and the Cornhusker Council Boy Scouts.

The Boy Scouts worked door-to-door in many neighborhoods to collect the telephone directories. Directories were also dropped off at several parks and recreation centers in and around Lincoln: Auld Recreation Center, Belmont Recreation Center, Easterday Recreation Center, F Street Recreation Center, Holmes Lake Park, Irving Recreation Center and the Outdoor Education Center / Cornhusker Council.

For more than four years, Berry has been dedicated to keeping directories out of landfills in Lincoln, collecting more than 160,000 pounds of outdated directories in total. This year was no exception as the community collected 6,000 pounds more than last year's collection total. Directories, which were collected door-to-door by the local Scouts and dropped off at several parks and recreation centers in and around Lincoln, will be recycled by Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska.

"This year's program was a great success," said Laura Cole, senior director, Marketing for Berry. "We want to thank the community for its outstanding support. Each directory recycled contributes to the success of the program and preserves our local environment."
