The Saylor Foundation Introduces CGI Commitment to Action to Provide a Free Workplace and Job Search Skills Program

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 7, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Saylor Foundation is excited to introduce its Commitment to Action (CTA) at the 2012 Clinton Global Initiative America (CGI America) meeting, which is taking place June 7 - 8 in Chicago.

Established by former President Bill Clinton, CGI America is an annual gathering of business, government, and nonprofits organization leaders, who come together to develop new commitments that address economic recovery and job creation in the United States. "The Saylor Foundation is proud to have received an invitation to this year's CGI America. We see this as recognition for the Foundation's work in providing high-quality, free education to individuals across the globe," said Jeffery Davidson, Strategic Initiatives Manager of the Saylor Foundation.

"Our mission is to harness technology to make education free, and we believe there is a pool of workers who are seeking alternatives to the traditional credentialing and certification models upheld by our higher education system. We hope that our commitment will assist these individuals in joining the workforce and excelling in the workplace," added Alana Harrington, Director of the Saylor Foundation.

The Saylor Foundation announces the following Commitment to Action:

This commitment will primarily target disconnected youth and adult learners who have fallen through the cracks of the education system, are in need of assistance in order to reconnect with an educational track, or are struggling to enter or rejoin the workforce.  By committing to build a series of at least twelve skills-oriented courses, The Saylor Foundation will provide these students, as well as the organizations that service their additional needs, with a valuable tool designed to increase their marketability to employers and/or move forward on an educational path.

Through its mission to make education freely available for all, the Saylor Foundation provides an option for education-seeking individuals facing financial or geographical barriers by employing university professors to compile high quality, college-level courseware. The Foundation has built over 200 self-paced, automated college-level courses, made freely available via www.saylor.org.
