VetAdvisor Launches Team Care Model for Veterans

Veteran-Centric Wellness Program is Both Proactive and Preventative

Falls Church, VA, June 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- VetAdvisor® has been helping military veterans in their reintegration to civilian life since 2006, becoming the nation's experts on veteran-centric proactive, preventative care. With the launch of its Veteran Aligned Services Team (VAST) care model, VetAdvisor® is now a comprehensive preventative care solution, offering coaching services by subject matter experts and anchored by Lead Veteran Coaches (LVCs). LVCs are primary points of contact who work with the veteran to track his or her continuum of care by assisting in the establishment of personal plans with concrete steps to reach goals.

"The VetAdvisor care model provides veterans with a team of subject matter experts who understand veteran needs," states Jennifer Roseman-Farabaugh, Vice President of VetAdvisor® Services. "With an emphasis on self-monitoring, tracking, and evidence-based outcomes, VetAdvisor® drives veteran engagement in the process, providing veterans the tools they need to navigate the obstacles that affect their lives."

Lead Veteran Coaches (LVCs) are former military personnel who have served a minimum of three years with combat experience, and who have knowledge of recent federal veteran programs as well as of trends in technology, wellness, and behavioral health. Many LVCs will be graduates of the University of Southern California (USC) School of Social Work with a subconcentration in Military Social Work.

While LVCs are generalists focused on the comprehensive wellness experience, veterans work with subject matter coaches in VetAdvisor's four key areas of focus:

·      Behavioral Health: healthy relationships; effective communication; stress management

·      Wellness: weight and fitness tracking; sleep hygiene; healthy eating; smoking cessation

·      Finances: budgeting and debt management; understanding veterans' benefits and navigating the claims process; assisting with Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) issues

·      Careers: military skills translation; resume development; interviewing skills; navigating the federal hiring process; education on veteran workplace rights; career lifecycle management

The VetAdvisor® program combines the proactive outreach of coaches with veteran self-management, both of which lead to increased engagement and improved outcomes. Both evidence and experience show that interactivity allows veterans to achieve the empowerment necessary to lead a holistically complete life. VetAdvisor® also allows federal agencies and private organizations alike to feel secure in hiring and training a veteran workforce as these services increase veteran productivity and retention.
