William E. Kobler, M.D., Elected to AMA Board of Trustees


CHICAGO, June 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The American Medical Association (AMA), the nation's largest physician organization, announced today the election of William E. Kobler, M.D., a board-certified family physician in Rockford, Ill., to the Board of Trustees.

"I'm honored to be given the opportunity to serve on the AMA's Board of Trustees," said Dr. Kobler. "As a family physician I have the opportunity to help a diverse group of patients lead healthier lives, and I look forward to working with colleagues from around the nation to ensure we have the best possible health care system."

Dr. Kobler has been an AMA member since 1978 and has served as an AMA delegate since 2000. He was elected in 2004 and 2008 to the AMA Council on Medical Service, where he worked on many issues related to improving our health care system. He served as the chair of the council in 2010. He was also president of the Illinois State Medical Society from 2003 to 2004 and board chair from 2006 to 2008.

Dr. Kobler is a retired clinical assistant professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford, Ill. He has also served on the Fit Family Task Force, a group made up of physicians, the medical school and community organizations who work to improve healthy lifestyles in the public schools.

Dr. Kobler completed his undergraduate degree at Luther College and received his medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago. After 16 years in a solo family medicine practice, he is currently a member of the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis (OSF) medical group within the OSF health care system.
