Jarrow Formulas Launches PhosphOmega, an All-new Bioavailable Phospholipid-bound Omega-3 Supplement

PhosphOmega is Responsibly Sourced and Thoroughly Tested to Ensure Purity

LOS ANGELES, June 27, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Jarrow Formulas®, a formulator and supplier of superior nutritional supplements, announces the launch of PhosphOmega®, a naturally bound phospholipid-omega-3 fatty acid complex. Phospholipid-bound omega-3s have higher bioavailability than ordinary fish oils. In order to absorb typical omega-3 fatty acids, the human body, which is 70% water, needs to first emulsify the omega-3 fatty acid or the oil will not be absorbed. This limits the amount of omega-3s that can actually be bioavailable, regardless of the total quantity that is consumed. The phospholipids in PhosphOmega on the other hand are self-emulsifying, which markedly increases the body's ability to utilize them.

"The omega-3s in seafood are consumed both as phospholipids and triglycerides," says Rory Lipsky, Marketing Director. "For example, fish contain omega-3s as both phospholipids and triglycerides. PhosphOmega provides omega-3s in both the triglyceride and phospholipid forms, just as nature intended. Much has been made of the value of consuming omega-3s, but the body only benefits if the omega-3s are absorbed."
Recently, Krill Oil has become a more well-known and popular source of omega-3 fatty acids because 40% of the omega-3s are phospholipid-bound. PhosphOmega provides the same amount of phospholipid-bound omega-3s as Krill Oil, but at half the price. In addition, there is some question as to the sustainability of Krill Oil, so much so that Whole Foods Market has banned Krill Oil supplements. In contrast, PhosphOmega has a certificate of responsible sourcing to support its sustainability and has been accepted by Whole Foods Market. The combination of bioavailability and sustainability makes PhosphOmega a uniquely differentiated fish oil supplement.

PhosphOmega has also undergone extensive testing for toxins like heavy metals and PCBs. For each compound, PhosphOmega contains lower amounts than the minimal standards set by the two governing bodies: the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and Global Organization for EPA and DHA omega-3s (GOED).

PhosphOmega is available at fine health shops and vitamin stores everywhere. For more information, please visit www.jarrow.com.
