LANCASTER, Calif., June 29, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Saturday evening, June 30th, R. Rex Parris Law Firm will sponsor and one of its attorneys will have the opportunity to throw the first pitch at the final game of Local Heroes Week at Clear Channel Stadium, home to minor league baseball team The JetHawks. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the game starts at 7 p.m. The first 1,000 people in attendance will receive a high-quality JetHawks Stars & Stripes "Local Heroes" Jersey.
The Lancaster JetHawks are a minor league baseball team of the California League located in Lancaster, California. The team is named for the city's association with the aerospace industry and plays its home games at Clear Channel Stadium. The Lancaster JetHawks are the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros and the only California League team in Los Angeles County. On Saturday night, the JetHawks will be playing the Quakes, the L.A. Dodgers affiliate.
Saturday's event is part of the JetHawks' 4th Annual Local Heroes week which runs from June 25th to July 1st and honors the California Department of Corrections, American Medical Response (ambulance company), California Highway Patrol, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Every evening a different agency is honored at a JetHawks game, with all agencies being honored at Saturday's game. Each agency will have table displays, vehicles, demonstrations, color guards, award presentations, and flyovers. On Sunday, July 1st, the week will close with a "Guns vs. Hoses" softball competition, live music, activities for children, and a car show. Sunday's hours are 10-6 and admission is $5 with proceeds going to Fallen Heroes, a local charity which honors members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Angeles National Forest Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Department of Corrections who have lost their lives in the line of duty in the Antelope Valley.
