Orthodontist in Washington, DC Discusses Importance of Staying Active in Dental Community

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Jul 11, 2012) - Dr. Wayne Hickory recently sent the staff of his Washington, DC orthodontics practice to the Annual Session for the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) in Honolulu, HI. Hosted at the Hawaii Convention Center on Oahu, the 112th Annual Session welcomed 14,200 orthodontists and staff members to discuss the latest advancements and techniques in modern orthodontics. Dr. Hickory says the event provided his team with valuable information for helping enhance the quality of patient care at his practice. He has also just returned from delivering courses in several Asian countries on orthodontic treatments, helping him hone his skills in procedures such as Invisalign in Washington, DC by collaborating with other leading minds in the field.

At his practice, the Washington, DC orthodontist focuses on a wide variety of procedures ranging from lingual braces to Invisalign. Dr. Hickory says attending events like the AAO meeting and other courses allow him and his staff to place a continued emphasis on patient care by pursuing the most effective techniques available in the field of orthodontics. Offering a number of presentations, clinics, and promotional exhibits, he says the AAO Annual Session was a unique opportunity for his staff to witness firsthand the future of orthodontic treatment and to take part in shaping the community of dental treatment through developments in procedures like traditional and clear braces. He adds that his recent courses in Asia helped further his education through the sharing of knowledge and recent advancements in orthodontic techniques.

With over 25 years experience in orthodontic practice, Dr. Hickory says he has dedicated a significant portion of his career to giving back to continued education through participation in events like the AAO meeting as well as teaching advanced courses locally and internationally. He says remaining up-to-date with the latest methods and technology ensures orthodontic professionals can provide their patients with the best possible care and the most effective results. Dr. Hickory also says he hopes to participate in future AAO events, and will continue to make his commitment to continued education a priority in the future.

Dr. Hickory is the orthodontic consultant to International Smile, the company that distributes Invisalign to doctors in Indonesia and Vietnam. He gives all the certification courses and gives clinical support online. Having returned to his practice from recent trips to Jakarta, Indonesia and Saigon, and Hanoi, Vietnam, Dr. Hickory says he is eager to take the principles and techniques his staff observed at the AAO Annual Session, along with his knowledge gained through the international courses, and apply them to his treatment philosophy in the hopes of improving his patient care. "The malocclusions seen in these practices are generally more severe than seen in the average US practice. Consequently, one's creative planning skills are constantly challenged."

As with any dental procedure, Dr. Hickory recommends patients consult with an orthodontic specialist and a dedicated practice before undergoing any treatment, regardless of which type of procedure patients are considering. He says partnering with an experienced orthodontic practice that has displayed a dedication to pursuing the most effective treatments possible will help patients attain comfortable, beautiful results and a healthier smile.
