Canadian Investigation Finds Dumped and Subsidized Imports of Chinese Piling Pipe

HARROW, Ontario, Aug. 2, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Atlas Tube Canada Inc., Harrow, Ontario, is pleased with Canada Border Services Agency's preliminary determination on imports of dumped and subsidized piling pipe from China.

The Agency has found substantial dumping margins, ranging from 78.4% to 96.2% and additional subsidy amounts ranging from 8.2% to 13.9% on these imports. Provisional duties are now being applied to these goods. The duties will be finalized after the Canadian International Trade Tribunal confirms Atlas' position that these imports have been injuring the company's operations and threatening Canadian jobs.

As a major Canadian producer of piling pipe and an employer of hundreds of persons at its Harrow, Ontario, plant, Atlas filed a complaint with the Canadian government earlier this year to combat a continuous flood of low-priced Chinese pipe into Western Canada. This was done to protect Atlas' manufacturing operations and safeguard the jobs of its employees from the injurious effect of this unfair pricing of Chinese-origin products.

Atlas anticipates that the final stage in this process will lead to the curtailment of this injurious activity through the application of permanent anti-dumping and countervailing duties to the imports concerned.
