Lakewood Dog Groomer Wins "Best JeffCO Dog Grooming" Award Second Consecutive Year

LAKEWOOD, Colo., Aug. 26, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mile High Newspapers and OurColoradoNews.com awarded "Best JeffCO Dog Groomer" to Tamie Sowal, the dog groomer for Wadsworth Animal Hospital. This is Sowal's second consecutive year receiving the award. Grooming services include bathing, brushing, coat trimming, nail trimming and ear cleaning. The vet located near Belmar provides pet wellness care services, including dog grooming and pet dermatology, for the greater Denver communities, including Englewood, Arvada and Littleton.

Wadsworth Animal Hospital announced that their Lakewood dog groomer Tamie Sowal won the "Best of JeffCO Dog Groomer" award. This is Sowal's second consecutive year receiving the award, which is sponsored by Mile High Newspapers and OurColoradoNews.com. Readers and community members vote for their favorite local businesses and service providers.

"We are thrilled that Tamie has been recognized for all her hard work," said Lakewood veterinarian Dr. Eric Eisen. "Not every Denver veterinary hospital offers dog grooming. Grooming is an important part of pet wellness care, and we are pleased to provide our pet patients with the best grooming."

Grooming services at the veterinary hospital include bathing, coat brushing and trimming, nail trimming and earwax removal. Sowal uses shampoos that are gentle and hypoallergenic, which are safe for young pets and those with skin sensitivities.

A professionally certified groomer, Sowal's loyal pet owners say that her gentle, compassionate touch and attention to detail make a difference for her pet patients.

Amy Ortell is the owner of a senior-aged dog that frequently sees Sowal for grooming. Ortell says, "I love Tamie. She is more than gentle with my sixteen-year-old dog; I do not trust him with anyone else."

During a grooming appointment, Sowal will also check a pet's skin for fleas, ticks and signs of infection. According to veterinarian Dr. Eisen, regular grooming is an important opportunity to check for potential health problems. For example, flaky skin or dry spots may indicate a potential pet dermatology concern. Regular grooming helps to evenly distribute natural oils through a pet's skin, which keeps it healthy and reduces the occurrence of dry skin.

Sowal agrees, saying that grooming is important for both a pet's physical health as well as emotional well-being.

"I am honored to be recognized by our community for my dog grooming skills," said Sowal. "I love working with animals and providing pet wellness care. A well-groomed pet not only looks better, but also feels better."

A professional groomer can help anxious or nervous pets relax, making the bathing and nail trimming process easier. Due to Sowal's experience, she is able to trim pet's nails short without cutting the quick and causing bleeding. If pets are nervous or anxious at home, they are more likely to squirm, which could lead to a painful, accidental cut.
