Information Builders Customers Win Computerworld "Best in Class" BI Awards

Minnesota Department of Education, City of Richardson, and Maverick Transportation Honored for Excellence in IT

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Aug 30, 2012) -  Information Builders, a leader in business intelligence (BI), analytics, information integrity, and integration solutions, today announced that three of its customers -- Minnesota Department of Education, City of Richardson, and Maverick Transportation -- have won Computerworld's prestigious "Best in Class BI" award. The organizations were honored for using Information Builders' WebFOCUS BI platform to improve data analytics and simplify access to real-time information through widely adopted production applications. Computerworld's awards recognize public and private enterprises using information technology to promote and advance the public welfare, benefit society, and change the world for the better.

To obtain a better understanding of the educational trends impacting its school system, the Minnesota Department of Education created a public-facing BI environment. This dashboard enables teachers and administrators at 350 school districts to analyze data, such as student performance, graduation enrollment, dropout rates, and other educational metrics, for more informed decision-making. The department's BI portal uses WebFOCUS to visualize education data in compelling ways. Interactive reports, charts, and graphs make it easy for even non-technical users to compare performance among schools, districts, and regions.

To support building inspections, emergency services, and other critical functions, the City of Richardson, Texas, deployed a variety of mobile reporting and analysis applications, some with advanced mapping capabilities. Particularly noteworthy are the mobile BI apps it's using for the city's police and fire chiefs, enabling them to track active 911 calls and monitor the status of involved patrol cars, fire trucks, and ambulances. Officers, commanders, and other emergency services personnel can drill down into the particular details of an incident and obtain real-time insight into situations as they unfold.

To gain insight into the factors that influence safe driving records and boost driver productivity without adversely impacting safety, Maverick Transportation created user-friendly dashboards that allow business managers to visualize real-time data and accurately predict future outcomes. With the dashboards, managers have the option to observe an individual driver or truck performance to uncover what's impacting day-to-day productivity. This information can then be used to improve efficiency and ultimately increase return on investment.

"We are pleased to highlight the outstanding contributions of these exceptional customers," said Gerald Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders. "Their work exemplifies the breakthroughs that result from making good business decisions and using technology in constructive ways. Both public and private enterprises can learn from the Minnesota Department of Education, the City of Richardson, and Maverick Transportation's successful use of innovative BI applications."

The Minnesota Department of Education, the City of Richardson, and Maverick Transportation will present their solutions at Computerworld's Business Intelligence & Analytics Perspectives conference, September 9 to 11 in Phoenix, Arizona.
