Envivio Introduces New Higher Density 4Caster(TM) G4 Encoding Appliance

New 2RU Platform for Envivio Muse(TM) Encoding Software Increases Density and Flexibility, Lowers Costs

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Sept. 5, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Envivio (Nasdaq:ENVI), a leading provider of live and on-demand multi-screen IP video processing and delivery solutions, today introduced the Envivio 4Caster™ G4 encoding appliance for the Envivio Muse™ software-based encoder family. 4Caster G4 is a high performance computing (HPC) system that offers 6x density compared to the current platform—up to 72 SD or 12 HD channels per 2RU chassis, with the potential for further future density improvements. A flexible multi-node configuration and robust, power-efficient design reduce CAPEX and OPEX for operators.

"Envivio 4Caster G4 is the most powerful encoding platform that we have ever offered. With this high performance system, we are providing a broader range of interfaces, the largest number of output formats and the option of high quality or high density configurations," said Julien Signès, president and CEO of Envivio. "The combination of this new platform with the flexibility and best-in-class video quality of Muse software-based encoding supports the most demanding broadcast TV services, dense headends and multi-screen distribution, all at the same time."

Taking advantage of the latest Intel processing power, 4Caster G4 is capable of supporting next generation codecs, such as HEVC, and can significantly reduce power consumption and rack space requirements. Offering a wide range of interfaces (IP, ASI and SD/HD-SDI), redundant power supplies and hot-swappable nodes, 4Caster G4 is ideal for broadcast, cable, satellite and telco environments.

A new version of Muse encoding software offers two codec configurations across all output formats:

  • Extreme™: featuring latest generation statistical rate control for variable bit-rate applications and optimizing video quality for the most demanding HDTV content
  • Premium™: maximizing density for a highly cost-effective solution

Unlike hardware-based compression solutions that require separate platforms to address high quality, high density or multi-screen and traditional TV requirements, Muse Live and 4Caster G4 provide this flexibility within a single system. 4Caster G4 is an ideal platform for existing pay-TV operators who want to deploy the highest quality TV services to the home and support other devices such as tablets or smartphones, either now or later in their deployment cycle.

4Caster G4 is now available and has been selected by multiple operators worldwide, including a Central American Tier 1 telco operator for an over $1 million deployment to upgrade its converged TV and multi-screen service, replacing the incumbent hardware-based solution.

Muse is Envivio's multi-screen software architecture designed for live and on-demand video transcoding and distribution to TVs and mobile devices. Significantly improving efficiency and operations compared to architectures that call for separate broadcast and multi-screen headends, Muse is available on the Envivio 4Caster™ family of appliances or for use in an IT datacenter environment on HP blade servers.

More than 300 content and service providers around the globe have selected Envivio to power their multi-screen and broadcast TV services.

4Caster G4 will be displayed on Envivio stand #1.D73 during the upcoming IBC exhibition in Amsterdam, September 7-11.
