From FSMA to SFCA - Implications for Stakeholders Serving North America's Import Food Supply Chain

Webinar Addresses North American Food Importers' Legislative Concerns

WESTMINSTER, Colo., Sept. 11, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In the near future, as pending United States and Canadian food safety legislation—the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and the Safe Food for Canadians Act (SFCA)—becomes reality for food, ingredient, and raw material importers, supply chain transparency and documentation will become even more important than they presently are.

Food safety regulators on both sides of the 49th parallel are working towards the establishment of preventive rather than reactive food safety systems. While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) may end up adopting different paths towards achieving this goal, food importers on both sides of the border will be increasingly held to account for the safety of the foodstuffs they bring to market. FSMA, for example, requires importers to hold imported goods to the same standards as domestic foods.

The food industry is already a slim-margin business, so how can food companies of any size manage the additional compliance and documentation requirements while balancing the need to meet payroll, repeatedly assess external risks, and generally remain going concerns?

On September 26, 2012, Mark FeDuke, Director Trade Compliance, VLM Foods (Canada), and Gary Nowacki, CEO, TraceGains, Inc., will present a free 60-minute webinar to discus just such issues. From pending regulations under the FSMA to food importer licensing under SFCA, this free webinar offers important food for thought for the North American import trade community in considering what may just amount to the most significant set of changes to North America's food safety system for the foreseeable future...
