Cyberintelligence Experts Demonstrate How Losses of Data Occur Every Minute

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 24, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- For nearly 10 years, Tiversa has been working quietly behind the scenes with some of the largest governmental and business organizations in the world to provide an education about Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file-sharing and the unknown dangers associated with the networks. Now the world leader in P2P cyber intelligence has created a similar educational series designed for businesses, business groups, colleges, law enforcement agencies and parent groups.

"We have presented to organizations all over the world about Peer-to-Peer file-sharing networks, but this is the first time we have actually created a program that works on multiple levels," said Tiversa CEO Bob Boback. "Consumers, businesses and governments have data stolen every minute of the day through these networks and it is time for everyone to understand how data is taken and what can happen with it once it is gone."

The Tiversa Peer-to-Peer presentation will feature an industry expert discussing the history of the networks, how data is taken, how data moves globally and what can happen with the data in the wrong hands. The presentations will be created to last an hour without questions.

"The presentation Tiversa delivers each year at our annual national conference is one of the most anticipated and highly attended," noted FBI-LEEDA (Law Enforcement Executive Development Association) Executive Director Tom Stone. "To say that they don't leave the law enforcement agents in attendance completely amazed would be a complete understatement."

A Palo Alto Network report from this past January showed the global significance of P2P. The report stated that Palo Alto scanned more than 2,000 organizations worldwide and found a major jump in P2P file-sharing usage – an increase of in consumption by 700% to represent 14% of overall bandwidth. It also stated that at least one browser-based file-sharing application was detected on 89% of the participating organizations' networks.

"When Napster was created in 1999 no one ever envisioned networks like these being capable of delivering content other than music," added Boback. "While in general there may be an understanding of the inner workings of these networks, the majority of consumers and companies are not sufficiently educated and fall prey to the criminal element using the network. The program we present will certainly raise the awareness."
