Dennis Brager to Discuss Personal Liability at the UCLA Tax Controversy Institute

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Brager Tax Law Group founder Dennis Brager, a tax litigation attorney, California State Bar Certified Tax Specialist and former Senior Trial Attorney with the Internal Revenue Service, will be a panelist at the UCLA Extension's 2012 Annual Tax Controversy Institute.

"It is an honor to speak at the Institute again this year," says Brager. "Now in its 28th year, the event has been a leading forum to discuss tax controversy issues." Brager will be featured as a panelist in the discussion, "Is it Still Safe to Tell Your Client - Don't Worry, the IRS Will Just Impose the Tax at the Corporate Level and Will Not Look to You Personally for Payment?" The day long Institute will be held on October 17th at the Beverly Hills Hotel and will feature a variety of distinguished speakers and panelists.

Brager's panel will discuss the recent increase in the IRS' use of nominee and alter-ego liens, which he explains, "The IRS uses these types of collection tools on businesses with tax liabilities, but without many assets to pay the debt. It is increasingly important for tax controversy and tax collection practitioners to understand these methods and know what they can do to limit their effects on clients' personal liabilities."

In addition to a variety of panel discussions, the Institute features several speakers from the IRS, including the commissioner of the Small Business/Self-Employed division, the deputy associate chief counsel of the Procedure and Administration division and the chief of the National Office of Appeals.

Brager has been featured as a Super Lawyer in the field of Tax Litigation by Los Angeles Magazine. He has been quoted as a tax expert by Business Week, the Daily Journal, the National Law Journal, The Daily Beast, USA Today, Palm Beach Daily News, Money Laundering, the Los Angeles Daily Journal and Tax Analyst, and he has testified as an expert witness on federal tax matters.
