Quarterback Jacob Karam Leads Memphis Tigers to Victory in Conference Opener

MEMPHIS, TN--(Marketwire - Oct 16, 2012) - Jacob Karam, the starting quarterback for the Memphis Tigers, led his team to a 14-10 victory over Rice in the team's conference opener. The victory marks the first time that the Tigers have opened conference play with a victory in 12 years.

It is no coincidence that Memphis broke the streak the same year that Karam became the starting quarterback for the team. After playing two years for Texas Tech, the transfer quarterback has proven a breath of fresh air for the once struggling Tigers. Since his arrival Karam has completed 73 of 123 passes for 787 yards and has thrown six touchdowns.

But his favorable statistics do not tell the full story. Jacob's teammates and coaches alike have cited his dedication and passion as the primary reasons for his success. Always seeking to improve his game, Jacob is notorious for never backing away from a challenge. Additionally, his uplifting and positive attitude inspires those around him in ways that cannot be measured by stat sheets alone.

Jacob thanks his large support system for molding him into the man he is today. The oldest of five siblings, Jacob was encouraged by his family to follow his heart, and to pursue endeavors that would not only benefit him, but those around him as well. His father Jerome is a well-regarded Lawyer who deals with Real Estate, Personal Injury, and Business Litigation cases as a Texas attorney with a reputation for placing the needs of his clients above his own. Additionally, he has played a significant role in modernizing and restoring historical Galveston County through the redeveloping of underutilized properties.

Jacob's siblings have also benefited from the support of their parents. Sister Joann is a standout tennis player and other sister Jordan was recently invited to join the esteemed dance troupe, the Wranglerettes. And in addition to his success on the gridiron, Jacob is an accomplished pianist, a regular volunteer at St. Jude's and a speaker of multiple languages.

Thanks to their victory over Rice, the Tigers are poised to make a run in Conference USA. With Jacob Karam at the helm, it will be exciting to see just how far they can go.
