Licensing Executives Society LA Chapter Launches Inaugural Advisory Board

Announces November 8, 2012 Event "Licensing Trends in Health Care: Lessons from Other Industries"


LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Los Angeles Chapter of the Licensing Executives Society today announced the launch of its inaugural Advisory Board and its November 8th event entitled "Licensing Trends in Health Care: Lessons from Other Industries".

Advisory Board

The Board is comprised of individuals actively engaged in LA's vibrant intellectual property (IP) industry and reflects the area's diversity and vibrancy. The Advisory Board is charged with developing programs that empower, connect and educate IP professionals in the Los Angeles area. 

The Board includes leaders at Fortune 100 media and entertainment companies, venture capital firms active in the LA technology space, university licensing professionals who liaison between inventors and the marketplace, private and publicly-traded technology companies based in LA, and nationally recognized legal, accounting and valuation professionals who specialize in serving IP-driven transactions and firms. 

"The goal of LES/LA is to become the hub of the IP marketplace in Los Angeles," said Andrea Belz, Chapter Chair. "We value the time, knowledge, creativity, resources, mentorship, and financial support our Board members have committed toward achieving this goal. Board activity is already bearing fruit, with members leading three new programs for this Fall and Spring."

A brief biography of each Advisory Board member is presented below:

Jeffrey D. Adelman is VP, General Counsel & Secretary of cloud service provider j2 Global, Inc. He has closed 40-plus j2 acquisitions and created its active IP licensing business.

Hannah Dvorak-Carbone, Ph.D., is an Associate Director with the Office of Technology Transfer at Caltech, where her responsibilities include patenting and licensing Caltech IP.

Scott Feldmann is an intellectual property trial attorney, and Partner with Baker Hostetler LLP. He has tried and won patent cases involving chips, software and communications technology.

Ruben Flores-Saaib is Sr. Manager Scientific Collaborations for EMD Millipore Corporation, responsible for in-licensing and collaborations with academia in NA (West), Japan and Australia.

Lee Fraser is Executive Director of Finance for Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Marketing, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment and Time Warner Inc., which serves as an innovation center for Warner Bros. Television through the creation and management of the Warner Bros. Television Brand Innovation Program.

Mavis S. Gallenson, Esq. is Managing Partner of the Los Angeles office of Ladas & Parry LLP, an IP boutique, specializing in worldwide IP protection and licensing.

Brett A. Garner practices licensing and technology transactions in the Los Angeles office of Venable LLP counseling clients in a variety of industries, including entertainment and online companies.

Bruce Lathrop is a patent and licensing attorney providing strategic legal services to entrepreneurs and CEOs in the Los Angeles area and internationally.

Vincent Leoni is the partner that leads Moss Adams LLP's Royalty Compliance practice. He has over 25 years' experience performing royalty compliance examinations in the entertainment, gaming and technology industries.

Nevena Orbach is President of the Orbach Company, Inc., a business development optimization firm focused on helping companies grow and capture market share.

Billy Robbins, the Idea Dr., Intellectual Property Law with Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz LLP, secures and enforces IP Rights in inventions and innovations domestically & internationally.

Jessica Rousset is the Director of the Office of Technology Transfer at the Saban Research Institute, managing all intellectual property matters for Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

John Shearer is an award-winning technologist, inventor, serial entrepreneur, and former CEO of several tech ventures and currently serves as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management.

November 8 Event

LES-LA will host: "Licensing Trends in Health Care: Lessons from Other Industries" on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 from 12 - 2 pm at Children's Hospital-LA. We will examine the impact of the recession, the digital revolution and regulatory reform on the health care industry, with a special focus on finding and exploiting sources of innovation.
