Family Chiropractors in Portage Focus on Pediatric Care

PORTAGE, Wis., Nov. 18, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Portage chiropractors Dr. Kevin Blau and Dr. Brian Heeren are raising awareness about the benefits of chiropractic adjustments for pediatric care. According to the chiropractors, adjustments are safe for young children and may help a variety of common childhood ailments. Adjustments can treat acute earaches, colic and ADHD. Chiropractic care can also help youth sports injuries heal and relieve back pain. In conjunction with the chiropractor's commitment to healthy children, Dr. Blau and Dr. Heeren recently sponsored a "Healthy Baby Supply Drive."

Blau Chiropractic in Portage, WI says chiropractic care for children is effective for treating common childhood ailments.

"Many people think chiropractors only treat adults for back pain, but that's not the case," said Dr. Kevin Blau. "As a chiropractor in the Portage community, I frequently treat young children to help manage conditions like colic, acute earaches and ADHD symptoms."

According to Dr. Blau, when the body is out of alignment, the nervous system is unable to properly send and receive messages. The birthing process is stressful on an infant's spine. This can cause tiny subluxations that irritate the nervous system, which may increase the risk for colic and acute earaches.

"The musculoskeletal system in young children is still developing," said Dr. Blau. "An early misalignment can set children up for a variety of health problems later in life. By correcting a misalignment before adulthood, our wellness care helps reduce the risk for future health problems."

Dr. Blau and Dr. Heeren treat children with hands-on spinal adjustments that are safe and gentle for their bodies. A spinal adjustment can help relieve pressure on nerves controlling the bladder, reducing the incidence of bedwetting. Adjustments in the cervical spine may help improve lymph node function, helping fluid properly drain from the ear, which reduced the incidence of ear infections.

"Subluxations in the spine and neck can increase a child's sensitivity to environmental allergies and asthma," said Dr. Heeren. "A misalignment in the spine may also aggravate ADHD symptoms. Rather than relying on Ritalin or Adderall to treat their children, many parents prefer our drug-free treatments. Relieving constrictions in the nervous system help reduce the frequency of ADHD symptoms."

The practice also treats childhood sports injuries and back pain. In addition to spinal adjustments, children may also benefit from light therapy. This treatment reduces swelling in injured muscles and promotes the internal healing process.

"Parents choose our wellness care because it is a safe, effective and drug-free alternative to traditional medical care," said Dr. Blau.

As part of the wellness center's commitment to pediatric care, Dr. Blau and Dr. Heeren recently sponsored a "Healthy Baby Supply Drive" promoted on their Facebook page. Patients received a $5 adjustment with the donation of five baby supplies, which were donated to the Portage Pregnancy Resource Center serving Pardeeville, Poynette, Montello, and Oxford.
