IPC The Hospitalist Company Acquires Michigan Practice

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Dec. 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (Nasdaq:IPCM), a leading national hospitalist physician group practice company, announced today that it has acquired AHCP, P.C., an acute/post-acute care practice group operating in southeastern Michigan. The acquisition of AHCP represents a further expansion for IPC in the Michigan market where the Company already has a well-established presence.

R. Jeffrey Taylor, president and COO of IPC The Hospitalist Company, stated, "IPC has a highly developed acute and post-acute capability in Michigan. In this market we have the ability to provide excellent continuity of care through an entire patient episode, from hospital admission to post-acute care, and with their transition back to home. The addition of AHCP both deepens our team and broadens our expertise in this market. Healthcare reform places a premium on reducing hospital readmissions while improving the quality of patient care across the care continuum, and joining forces with AHCP augments our ability to meet these objectives."

AHCP co-founders Ronald Barnett, D.O. and Manolis Kyriacou, M.D. will both remain with the practice. Dr. Barnett commented, "After assessing our options it became clear that IPC will offer our practice superior capabilities in areas such as information technology, transition of care management and performance monitoring. Many of our patients are at significant risk for readmissions given their conditions, so the connection with IPC's strong continuum of care practice model will benefit our patients, our facilities, and our payers."

The practice represents an annualized volume of approximately 35,000 patient encounters.
