Novatek Adopts DivX Plus Streaming

New Processors for Flat-Panel TVs to Support Rovi's Advanced Adaptive Streaming Format and the Delivery of a Consistent, High-Quality Digital Streaming Media Experience

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 9, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW 2013) -- Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq:ROVI), driving digital entertainment innovation, today announced that Novatek Microelectronics Corp. is set to integrate DivX Plus Streaming® technology into its upcoming SOC product designed to deliver an optimal balance of features and performance for the high-volume DTV segment. The inclusion of DivX Plus Streaming will enable CE manufacturers to rapidly deploy devices compatible with a range of video services from retailers, operators, and content owners and deliver a more advanced streaming experience to consumers.

The adaptive streaming solution, DivX Plus Streaming, not only dynamically adjusts streams to help deliver maximum visual quality based on available bandwidth, but also offers an advanced feature set with support for 1080p, subtitles, multiple language tracks, and trick-play functions such as smooth fast forward and rewind. DivX Plus Streaming expands the value of the already popular DivX Plus® HD Certification program, which brings these same advanced multimedia features to 'download to own' video content.

"Our advanced multimedia solutions provide designers with an abundant array of features for a wide range of applications in Set Top Boxes and DTVs," said J. H. Chang, Senior Vice President of Novatek. "DivX Plus Streaming enhances this feature set and will help our customers deliver an optimized and trouble-free over-the-top entertainment experience."

"Integration into Novatek SOCs represents another major milestone for DivX Plus Streaming and will result in broader access to richer entertainment experiences for more consumers," said Simon Adams, SVP, Sales and Marketing, Consumer Electronics, Rovi Corporation. "DivX Plus Streaming is part of a broader range of solutions we are developing to advance the entertainment experience for consumers and provide our customers with the solutions they need to drive product satisfaction and over-the-top service usage."

To develop DivX Plus Streaming, Rovi built upon core DivX® technologies recognized by millions of consumers around the world for delivering great video performance, visual quality, and multi-screen interoperability. DivX Plus Streaming Certification rigorously tests and validates interoperability between entertainment services and devices to ensure an optimal consumer experience. DivX Plus Streaming expands the value of the popular DivX and DivX Plus® HD Certification programs, which first brought advanced multimedia features to 'download to own' video content and have resulted in the shipment of more than 750 million consumer electronics devices by top-tier manufacturers.
