New Physical Therapist Aide Program to Debut at Coyne College on February 19

Employment of Physical Therapist Aides Is Expected to Increase by 33 Percent Through 2020

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Jan 24, 2013) - Coyne College, a leader in education and training for HVAC & Refrigeration, Electrical Construction and Maintenance, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assisting and Medical Billing/Coding, announced today that it will offer a new Physical Therapist Aide program. Starting on Tuesday, February 19, the program will be offered at Coyne's Loop campus, located at 230 W. Monroe, Suite 400, in Chicago. Physical Therapist Aides assist with patient care under the direction of a Physical Therapist Assistant. Interested students can apply at: www.coynecollege.edu/contact/apply-online.

According to the 2012-2013 edition of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment of Physical Therapist Aides is expected to increase by 33 percent.

"With the expected demand for Physical Therapist Aides growing rapidly, we thought it was a good time to offer education and training in the field," said Russell Freeman, President, Coyne College. "The new Physical Therapist Aide program, through coursework and an externship, addresses both the clinical and administrative roles, while also training students in a field that offers a good chance for them to find a job following graduation."

Physical Therapist Aide responsibilities may include the upkeep and cleanliness of the treatment area, moving the patient to and from the treatment area, and ordering and preparing medical supplies. They may also be responsible for completing medical insurance forms, billing, and office reception duties such as answering the telephone, and setting and reconfirming appointments. A degree of physical strength is needed for the job since an aide may be required to lift patients from their wheelchairs.

Students can complete the Physical Therapist Aide program at Coyne College in 45 weeks. This includes 39 weeks of classes, at 20 hours per week, and six weeks in an externship program, which provides students with real-world experience in a rehabilitation center, home health care setting, clinical setting, or skilled nursing facility. More information about the program is available at: www.coynecollege.edu/programs/physical-therapist.
