ASCP's Professional Development CEnter Growing Successfully

Society's Online Courseware Hits Over 6,600 Users Seeking Continuing Education

ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 26, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) launched an in-house learning site, the Professional Development CEnter (CEnter), focused on continuing professional development in geriatrics in July 2011. Now, less than two years after its launch, the CEnter's user group has grown from 54 learners to over 6,600 user interactions.

"We are very excited about the growth of the Professional Development CEnter because members and visitors clearly find it to be the spot to easily and quickly meet their professional development needs," said Joseph Gerber, RPh, CGP, PhD, ASCP Senior Director of Educational Affairs. "Users find CEnter to be a simple, intuitive, easy-to-use learning management system that helps them take advantage of professional learning opportunities and track their CE credits."

Today the CEnter continues to bring together educational programs and resources on a wide range of subjects, including Geriatric Pharmacy Review, Comprehensive Medication Reviews (CMR), HIV Infection in the Elderly, and Cognitive Decline in Older Adults. The CEnter also contains free learning modules, such as Improving Your Business IQ, advanced case-based courses and packages for Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (CGP) recertification, and accredited Geriatric Pharmacy Review (GPR) Introductory Courses, often used in preparing for the Certified Geriatric Pharmacy Exam.

The Professional Development CEnter is available at education.ascp.com. Users experience seamless, single sign-on communications between the ASCP Website, www.ascp.com, and the CEnter. All of the learning activities on the site are cataloged, and a transcript of completed courses is available.  New activities are added throughout the year and can be seen in the "Highlighted  Courses" box on the CEnter's main page.

Learners can easily print their CE certificates upon successful completion of a learning activity. Additionally, the CEnter system is set up to accept for CE tracking and reporting directly to the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) under the CPE Monitor Program.  For more information on the CPE Monitor Program, please visit www.mycpemonitor.net.

We encourage ASCP members and non-member users who recognize ASCP as THE source for geriatric pharmacotherapy focused learning and support tools to visit the CEnter frequently to avail themselves of its many benefits.
