U.N. Youth Champion and Actress Monique Coleman to Join Global Kids Supporters at Council on Foreign Relations

24th Annual Celebration to Raise Funds to Help Non-Profit

NEW YORK, May 1, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The esteemed Council on Foreign Relations on the Upper East Side of Manhattan will soon reverberate with the excitement of youth connecting with international affairs and supporters who want to make it happen.

That's because Thurs., May 9 the Council will host Global Kids (www.globalkids.org) and its 24th Annual Celebration that supports GK's award-winning leadership and global learning programs for underserved youth in New York City and D.C. public schools.

The guest of honor will be Monique Coleman, who is known as Taylor McKessie in Disney's High School Musical franchise. However, her most significant role came when she was appointed the first United Nations Youth Champion for the International Year of Youth. Coleman initiated a six month global tour that spanned 24 countries. Her aim was to raise awareness about the most pressing issues facing youth and encourage young people to foster progress in their communities.

"I am so proud to support Global Kids as it inspires and educates future leaders; I invite everyone who cares about these issues to join me at the event at the Council in May. It's essential that young people understand the world around them and how their voices matter. I'm very inspired that students in Global Kids reflect the rich diversity of our country," says Coleman.

Global Kids reaches more than 14,000 youth and educators each year while groundbreaking online programs reach millions more. Funds raised by the non-profit at the event will go directly to helping it operate its programs.
