USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez Joins Former President of Colombia Alvaro Uribe Velez at Book Signing

WASHINGTON, May 10, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Monday, United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) President & CEO Javier Palomarez joined President Alvaro Uribe to celebrate the publication of Uribe's book No Lost Causes. The work has received widespread acclaim as an insightful narrative of his personal experiences as President of Colombia from 2002-2010. Palomarez offered introductory remarks for President Uribe.

"I am proud to have had the honor of introducing President Alvaro Uribe at Monday's reception. His work as President of Colombia had an unprecedented impact on the stability and economic prosperity of his country. By prioritizing a free and fair market in Colombia, he transformed the country into a regional leader in investment and modern development," said Palomarez. "This book tells the story of how President Uribe overcame incredible odds. While some of Colombia's neighboring countries embraced anti-capitalist policies and, at times, harbored anti-American sentiment, President Uribe understood the strength of the Colombian people and respected their willingness to compete in the global marketplace. Despite great personal risks, his sound political and economic judgment created an environment that attracted billions of dollars in foreign direct investment, modernized Colombia's infrastructure and stabilized an over half a century-old security crisis. His faith in his people has made all the difference."

Monday's reception marked for Palomarez the culmination of a series of high-level meetings, discussing the strategic importance of U.S – Latin American commercial relations and the promotion of hemispheric collaboration. Last week, Palomarez met with top administration officials, including President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Senior White House Advisor to the President Valerie Jarrett in preparation for the President's state visit to Mexico and Costa Rica.

"Javier's participation at President Uribe's book signing demonstrates the importance the USHCC places on strategic relationships with political and business leaders from across the Western hemisphere. President Uribe's economic policies not only made Colombia the dynamic economy it is today, but his experience became an inspirational success story about tough, intelligent leadership reaping lasting results. We commend the work of the USHCC - building natural bridges between the burgeoning U.S. Hispanic business community and neighboring economies across Latin America. I look forward to joining them in their future endeavors," said Jan Miller, Founder and CEO of Dupree Miller & Associates, which represents President Uribe.
