Durham Chiropractor Gives Abundant Life in 2013 Talk for Seniors

DURHAM, N.C., May 19, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A Durham chiropractor is spreading the word about the benefits of chiropractic care to seniors through ongoing education outreach. Dr. David Leidich of Chiropractic & Wellness Center states that he not only treats senior patients a variety of ailments at his clinic, but he also performs these services at a local senior facility. He recently spoke at the senior facility. "We hope to show seniors how they can improve their quality of life through chiropractic treatment," he says.

Durham chiropractor Dr. David Leidich of Chiropractic & Wellness Center recently hosted a talk entitled "Abundant Life in 2013: Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Seniors" which was delivered at a local senior facility. He expresses the hope that seniors will feel his message is not only informative but also inspiring, spurring them to take greater control over their health by trying this natural form of care.

"Once seniors understand that chiropractic treatment can provide back and neck pain relief, healthier physical function and more robust wellness, it is our hope that they will take advantage of these services and get more enjoyment out of their golden years," Dr. Leidich says.

Dr. Leidich cites osteoarthritis and other degenerative joint problems as typical problems plaguing older individuals. Musculoskeletal degeneration commonly occurs to some degree with aging as the cartilage between bone surfaces begins to wear out, he explains. "Spinal misalignments that throw the body off balance can accelerate or aggravate this deterioration, causing knee, hip, back and neck pain," he said.

He adds that the very act of maintaining one's balance can become impaired with age; the mechanoreceptors of the cervical spine, which normally process orientation and coordination, can lose some of their function due to faulty nerve signaling, making seniors more prone to a dangerous fall or other personal injury. Chiropractic adjustment can correct nerve impingements that impair nerve function, allowing not only for better balance but also for back and neck pain relief.

In addition to chiropractic adjustment, Dr. Leidich may also prescribe massage, gentle exercises or other supportive therapies to help improve range of motion and allow for drug-free pain management. The practitioner adds that the overall improvement of bodily processes also helps to enhance immune response, another important factor in senior wellness.

Dr. Leidich's desire to help seniors experience a higher quality of life has led him to bring his services directly to this population. Chiropractic & Wellness Center currently works with a local senior living facility, providing treatment as needed to the residents. "Especially for people with mobility restrictions, this form of 'house call' is greatly needed and appreciated," he says.

In addition to senior care, Chiropractic & Wellness Center provides spinal adjustment, massage therapy, physical therapy, yoga classes, and preventative wellness evaluations for Durham residents of all ages.
