USHCC Congratulates Los Angeles Mayor-Elect Eric Garcetti

WASHINGTON, May 22, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) today congratulated Los Angeles City Councilman Eric Garcetti for winning election as the city's next mayor. A strong ally of the Hispanic business community, Garcetti will assume the role as the city's executive facing several challenges, including budget gaps and high unemployment.

"Los Angeles is home to a high concentration of Hispanic-owned businesses that are contributing to our American economy every day by creating jobs and providing a wide variety of goods and services," stated USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "As the leader of the third largest metropolitan economy in the world, we are confident that under Mayor Garcetti, the city of Los Angeles will make great strides to serve as an example of innovation and prosperity in a fast-paced global economy."

The USHCC supports several key pillars of Garcetti's economic agenda, including clean energy and water investments, streamlining processes for starting a business in Los Angeles, and improving job training programs for a skilled and prepared workforce.

"The city of Los Angeles has been a strong partner of the USHCC and our member chambers. With nearly 230,000 Hispanic-owned business, Los Angeles was the natural choice for last year's USHCC National Convention," said USHCC Chairman Marc Rodriguez. "As Mr. Garcetti assumes the position of mayor in the coming weeks, we look forward to growing our working relationship and creating economic opportunities for small businesses across Los Angeles."
