Hart Energy Promotes Mark Thomas to Editor-in-Chief For Its Global E&P Magazine Franchise

HOUSTON, July 3, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Houston-based Hart Energy, a leading information provider to the energy industry, has promoted Mark Thomas to serve as Editor-in-Chief of its E&P magazine and related online newsletters, web site products and data services. Thomas, who has nearly 30 years' experience as a journalist, has focused on petroleum industry coverage since the early 1990s.

Thomas will carry both content strategy and operational management responsibilities across the entire E&P franchise which includes digital newsletters, Deepwater International and Subsea Engineering News (SEN), and the epmag.com web site.  He also will contribute content guidance for Hart Energy's burgeoning international conferences.  He had been Senior Editor, Offshore, for E&P magazine and Deepwater International, which he founded at Thomas International Publishing (and which Hart Energy acquired in 2012).

Russell Laas, the E&P publisher for Hart Energy, said, "Mark's global industry experience, leadership skills, editorial insight and unique perspective on the offshore industry make him the perfect choice to provide strategic direction for the E&P franchise."

In turn, Thomas said, "I'm delighted to be entrusted with the role of Editor-in-Chief.  The magazine has grown immensely from when I worked as its launch editor in 1998.  It has become the leading upstream trade publication for the oil and gas industry. I look forward to helping expand E&P's top-quality editorial content, products and data services, and to widening our range and depth of international coverage, both onshore and offshore.

"The energy industry is tracking an unprecedented and long-term upwards curve, fuelled by the ongoing surge of upstream activity in unconventionals, deepwater, subsea and beyond," he noted. "Hart Energy's own plans for new and emerging sectors will directly reflect the industry's impressive growth."
