AKVA group: Strategic collaboration with ØPD Group to develop improved automatic dead fish collection system.

AKVA group invests in equipment to improve the dead fish collection process in aquaculture operations.

Increasingly large volumes of biomass in the cages and more focus on hygiene and fish welfare has given incentives to improve the dead fish collection process, from the collection within the cage to the silage system. Dead fish has to be removed rapidly to create and maintain a healthy environment within the cages.

Almost all barge models from AKVA group are equipped with solutions for handling collected dead fish. Now AKVA group further strengthen the position as supplier of complete technology solutions to the aquaculture industry by adding the latest within dead fish collection technology to the product line.

AKVA group recently entered into a strategic development and manufacturing collaboration with the company ØPD Group AS to develop an improved automatic dead fish collection system. The two parties have worked closely together with fish farming companies to develop and test the new system. The system will be launched at Aqua Nor, August 2013, in Trondheim where AKVA group will be present with a 144m2 stand in Hall D.

The new system is branded under the Akvasmart brand and the first systems are already installed and operational at several customer locations in the Norwegian market.

The new system features provides a safer, more reliable and efficient dead fish collection process.

Net size, amount of dead fish and use of cleaner fish has been taken into account when designing the system.

The collaboration between ØPD AS and AKVA group is a good example of AKVA groups focus on strategic cooperation with specialized disciplines. AKVA group will continue to focus on core business and own technology, but seek qualified partners to develop new technology and products outside core business. Strategic projects will enable AKVA group to continue to stay on top of the game and provide a complete range of technology, further anchoring the position as complete supplier and qualified partner.  Experience has proven that this business model gives a higher innovation pace and shortens the process from an idea on a drawing board to a final product on the market.

The products are distributed through AKVA groups marketing organization worldwide and the service and maintenance is handled by AKVA groups service technicians, says Morten Malm, responsible for strategic projects within AKVA group. Karsten Himmelstrup which represents ØPD Group AS is pleased with the agreement which also includes emergency response equipment for critical situations with mass mortality. We could not dream of a better partner than AKVA group for this project. The company is well known within the industry worldwide and has a professional sales and service organization which we at this stage could not possibly build up on our own, says Karsten Himmelstrup.
