Four Families Receive Minnesota Family Involvement Council Scholarships at TopLine Federal Credit Union


MAPLE GROVE, MN--(Marketwired - Jul 24, 2013) - TopLine Federal Credit Union is honored to announce that members of four families each won a $500 scholarship from the Minnesota Family Involvement Council (FIC). This year the FIC offered eighteen college scholarships totaling $10,000 to Minnesota credit union members.

Nearly 1,000 students applied for the scholarships from credit unions throughout the state. Applicants were selected based on school and community involvement, and an essay which explained "what's the best financial advice you've been given, or the hardest financial lesson you've learned, and how has this impacted your life."

Charles Bishop and Susanne Gawreluk, both from TopLine's Como Park branch, received scholarships to continue post secondary education in the fall of 2013. Charles will be starting graduate school at the Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and Susanne will be attending St. Mary's University to pursue a master's degree in Human Development.

Emily Jorgenson from TopLine's Maple Grove branch and Steven Mueggenberg from the Brooklyn Park branch received scholarships to pursue undergraduate degrees this coming fall. Emily is planning on attending the University of Minnesota, Rochester campus for pre-pharmacy and Steven will be attending St. Scholastica to study Computer Science.

The Minnesota Family Involvement Council (FIC) is a volunteer organization made up of representatives from credit unions around the state of Minnesota to enhance the future of the credit union movement by promoting financial awareness, financial education and full-family involvement. The FIC began in 1985 and launched the scholarship program in 1997 and has received more than 12,000 scholarship applications and has awarded nearly $137,000 in scholarships.
