The ASSEMBLY Show to Address Key Findings From ASSEMBLY Magazine's State of the Profession Survey

The Reviving U.S. Economy Is Encouraging Manufacturers to Invest in Assembly Technology

ROSEMONT, IL--(Marketwired - Jul 31, 2013) - ASSEMBLY Magazine, producer of The ASSEMBLY Show, recently released its annual State of the Profession survey revealing that assemblers are busier than ever because of the U.S. economic revival. According to the industry wide survey, manufacturers will be committing more resources toward assembly operations in the next year. With more projects getting the green light, manufacturing engineers and managers from across the Midwest will convene October 28-30 in Rosemont, IL, to see the latest assembly technologies on the show floor and to learn about them during the conference sessions.

"The most important finding in this year's State of the Profession survey was that 84 percent of respondents expect their companies to commit either the same amount or more resources toward assembly operations in the next year," said John Sprovieri, Editor of ASSEMBLY Magazine. "This should be a big year for The ASSEMBLY Show."

According to this year's survey, the top three issues affecting assembly operations today are pressure to lower production costs (65 percent), improving productivity (63 percent), and maintaining quality (49 percent).

With that being the case, assemblers should find plenty to interest them on the floor of The ASSEMBLY Show. Exhibitors will be displaying the latest advances in robotics, presses, riveters, power tools, automatic screwdrivers, adhesive dispensing and curing equipment, workstations, conveyors, wire processors, and test and inspection equipment. Need to boost throughput when installing threaded fasteners? A dozen exhibitors at The ASSEMBLY Show can help, including ASG, Design Tool Inc., and Ingersoll Rand. Need to reduce waste and improve accuracy during adhesive bonding operations? At least 15 exhibitors, including Fisnar, Henkel Loctite, and Nordson EFD, will showcase these products.

This year's survey asked engineers to name the key factors that will contribute to their companies' overall competitiveness in the coming year. Their top three responses were manufacturing flexibility (68 percent), product quality (65 percent), and continuous improvement (60 percent). There's no better way to ensure flexibility and quality than with robotics and automation.

The ASSEMBLY Show boasts more than 20 robotics suppliers and systems integrators, including ATS Automation, EPSON Robots, and ixmation North America. Whether they're looking for a single-station, semiautomatic machine to join plastic parts or a full-scale, multistation automated assembly system, engineers will find a myriad of suppliers.

This year's ASSEMBLY Show will provide two informative keynote presentations, including Daniel J. Meckstroth, Ph.D., Vice President and Chief Economist for the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity & Innovation (MAPI), and Michael F. Molnar, Director of the Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office and the Chief Manufacturing Officer of the National Institute of Standards and Technology for the United States Department of Commerce.
