Informatica Included in Top Vendors for Data Virtualization

Independent Research Firm Cites Informatica's "Advanced" and "Strong and Broad Data Virtualization Offering"

Redwood City, Calif., Aug. 14, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Informatica Corporation (Nasdaq:INFA), the world's number one independent provider of data integration software, today announced it is a top vendor cited specifically for its advanced, strong and broad offerings across 18 key data virtualization criteria in Forrester Research Inc.'s August 2013 report on the broadening impact of data virtualization, entitled "Information Fabric 3.0, Forrester's Reference Architecture for Enterprise Data Virtualization." The complete report, including the data virtualization vendor landscape, is available on the Informatica website at www.informatica.com/datavirtualization.

In a complementary report "The Forrester Wave™: Data Virtualization, Q1 2012" published January 5, 2012, which evaluated top vendors, Informatica was identified as a leader in data virtualization, with highest scores in both "Current Offering" and "Strategy."

Designed to guide organizations on their data virtualization strategy, Information Fabric 3.0 updates Forrester's data virtualization reference architecture to include new and advanced technologies required to support a widening range of applications and business requirements. The vendor landscape portion of the report reviews vendors along 18 key criteria, calling out full, partial or lack of support for each criterion. Informatica fully or partially supports all 18 criteria, with full support for 10 criteria - across eight vendors.

According to Forrester, "Informatica has a strong and broad data virtualization offering. Before 2009, Informatica was an OEM for Composite Software's data services technology. With version 9 of its Data Services platform, Informatica began to offer its own data virtualization product that it had developed internally, delivering advanced data virtualization capabilities such as any-stage data profiling, real-time data transformations including quality and masking, a model-driven approach to provisioning reusable data services, virtual to and from physical data integration, common metadata shared across its other data middleware, as well as its role-based tooling for managed self-service.

By leveraging its data integration platform, Informatica's data virtualization technology is able to support new use cases for operational reporting and intelligence, big data federation and security, unstructured data federation, mainframe federation, real-time data masking, and federation of archived data, apart from traditional data virtualization use cases such as agile BI, master data management and service-oriented architecture (SOA). Today, many large companies use Informatica for data virtualization initiatives in the financial services, insurance, retail, healthcare, manufacturing, government and telecommunications sectors."

In the report, Informatica is:

·         The only vendor with full support for role-based tools: business user and IT-focused.

·         One of only two vendors fully supporting real-time data quality; integrated data governance; integrated data security: access control, masking.

·         One of only three vendors fully supporting stream processing, real time replication, complex event processing; metadata: lineage, taxonomy, catalog; and dynamic optimization and execution.

·         Additional categories where Informatica provides full support include integration with Hadoop; integration with SaaS, social and web technologies; and canonical model/logical data model.

"Forrester's Information Fabric 3.0 reference architecture highlights the broadening scope of data virtualization and its growing importance in powering real-time operational intelligence with any-stage data profiling, real-time transformations including data quality and masking, managed self-service and flexibility and agility of deployment, with a single platform for both data integration and data federation," said Ronen Schwartz, vice president and general manager, Emerging Products, Informatica. "Informatica was also recognized as a leader in data virtualization in an earlier Forrester's report, 'The Forrester Wave™: Data Virtualization, Q1 2012.' Eighteen months on, we have furthered our leadership with an industry leading platform for data virtualization built on Vibe. Now we support new types and more immense volumes of data, new use cases, new applications and new business realities that require fast and reliable information in addition to real-time insight into business events as they happen."
