San Diego, Aug. 16, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- August 16, 2013 (San Diego, CA) - The Governance Institute, a service of National Research Corporation, is continuing its partnership with The Thomas Jefferson University School of Population Health to present a one-day training program on quality and safety for board members who attend The Governance Institute's Leadership Conference in October at The Greenbrier in White Sulpur Springs, West Virginia. The program will be led by Dr. David Nash, dean of The Thomas Jefferson University School of Population Health.

This is the second program of this kind. The first was presented in February at The Breakers in Palm Beach, FL. A total of 33 attendees, including 26 board members and seven healthcare executives, participated in this inaugural training session, which focused on strategic and tactical issues involved in creating a cutting-edge quality and safety governance program.

This interactive training will include practical examples regarding the role of the board quality committee in quality and patient safety efforts, and will incorporate the perspectives of all affected stakeholders in the healthcare system. Participants will receive a certificate of completion from The Governance Institute and The Thomas Jefferson University School of Population Health. "There is a critical need to ensure that patients receive the best quality care without harm, at all times," said The Governance Institute's CEO Jona Raasch. "So boards have a vital responsibility to hardwire this into their organization's culture. This training program provides valuable take-home lessons for boards looking to accomplish this goal."

The program will take place on October 20, 2013, at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Program tuition is $495 for members and $595 for non-members.
