SpareFoot Releases List of 10 Tidiest Towns in America

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 10, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Albuquerque, New Mexico, has made it a clean sweep in SpareFoot's new list of the 10 Tidiest Towns in America.

According to calculations by SpareFoot, the online self-storage marketplace, Albuquerque ranks first for having the tidiest households among the 100 most populated metro areas in the U.S.

One reason for Albuquerque's No. 1 position on the list may be the local architecture. Residences there don't have attics or basements, boosting the popularity of self-storage, Liz Davenport of Albuquerque, a professional organizer who owns Order from Chaos, told SpareFoot.com.

"One of the other side effects of not having attics and basements is your clutter is right in front of you," Davenport said. "There's no place to hide it, and because it's right there, it bugs you."

Here's SpareFoot's complete list of the 10 Tidiest Towns in America:

  1. Albuquerque, New Mexico
  2. Little Rock, Arkansas
  3. Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville, Florida
  4. Chattanooga, Tennessee
  5. Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida
  6. Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach, Florida
  7. Baton Rouge, Louisiana
  8. Charleston, South Carolina
  9. Orlando, Florida
  10. Spokane, Washington

To come up with the ranking, SpareFoot looked at how much people spend, as a share of their income, on cleaning supplies; how many maids and housekeepers work in the area; and how many square feet of storage space are available per capita. In coming up with the ranking, SpareFoot made statistical adjustments for tourist areas with particularly heavy concentrations of maids and housekeepers, such as Las Vegas and Honolulu.
