Oviedo Chiropractor Earns Special Certification in Whiplash and Brain Injury Traumatology

OVIEDO, Fla., Sept. 29, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Oviedo chiropractor Dr. Eric Janowitz of Synergy Family Health recently earned certification in treating whiplash and brain injury trauma from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego. Dr. Janowitz completed several months of additional study and worked personally with whiplash treatment pioneer Dr. Art Croft during the certification process. Although Dr. Janowitz has already treated thousands of cases of whiplash, neck injuries, headaches, and back injuries, he states that this certification gives him more tools for helping patients. Specifically, he says he is better prepared to provide technical documentation needed for insurance, the courts and other healthcare providers.

According to the Oviedo chiropractor, whiplash injuries are highly complex and can cause severe pain for years without correct treatment. Dr. Janowitz describes whiplash as a sudden injury that damages muscles, discs, ligaments, nerves and even the vertebrae themselves—all in a fraction of a second. He says prompt treatment is the key to avoiding years of unnecessary pain from whiplash and other car accident injuries.

Dr. Janowitz explains he was driven to complete this extra certification by his desire to help his patients. "At least 3 million people suffer whiplash each year, but many people don't realize how low-speed crashes that cause so little damage to their cars can actually cause major damage to the spine and nervous system. In fact, many whiplash victims don't even realize they've been injured because the symptoms often appear weeks or months later."

Dr. Janowitz says that although he has successfully treated more than 1,000 car accident injuries over the last 13 years, this additional training gives him new ways to help even more patients. He explains that his certification involved extra training into the mechanics of whiplash injuries and how to record more detailed documentation for insurance and legal situations. Many doctors, he adds, are reluctant to treat whiplash injuries because of these technicalities and potential legal complexities, but his new certification enables him better treat and document such cases for his patients. He also mentions that his office is equipped to diagnose and treat Emergency Medical conditions (EMC) as required by many insurance companies.

He urges all car accident victims, even those in seemingly minor crashes, to get examined immediately. Dr Janowitz urges, "With new PIP legislation, patients can lose their insurance coverage if they don't receive doctor's exam within 14 days of an accident. Also, prompt diagnosis and treatment can prevent years of pain and expense, so don't procrastinate!"

Dr. Janowitz has led Synergy Family Health and Oviedo Family Chiropractic in Oviedo for the past 13 years, and provides central Florida families with chiropractic care, medical care, physical therapy, massage therapy, spinal decompression, cold laser therapy and orthotics.
