Isola's Taoyuan Plant Receives Taiwan's First Cleaner Production Certificate for a Copper Clad Laminate Manufacturing Facility

Company Receives Certification From the Industry Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Taiwan

CHANDLER, Ariz., Oct. 15, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Isola Group S.á.r.l., a market leader in copper-clad laminates and dielectric prepreg materials used to fabricate advanced multi-layer Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), announced today that its newly renovated manufacturing facility in Taoyuan has received the Cleaner Production Certification from the Industry Development Bureau (IDB) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Taiwan. Isola is the first copper clad laminate (CCL) factory in Taiwan certified by the Cleaner Production Assessment Method Evaluation of the IDB. The certification recognizes Isola's continued efforts to operate its business in a socially responsible and sustainable manner.

The Cleaner Production Assessment Method developed by the IDB is based on the concept of "cleaner production" as defined by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The assessment evaluates five primary factors: manufacturing, eco-design, green management, social responsibility and green innovation, encompassing both qualitative and quantitative components.

The IDB's calculations of the quantitative aspects of the certification process of the Taoyuan plant required Isola to provide two years of data and supporting documentation related to policies, practice and performance. The addition of an advanced energy recycling system, an integral part of the facility renovation in Taoyuan, reduces energy costs by 70% and solvent usage by 30%. Additionally, the implementation of additional "green" energy initiatives and new production technologies deliver lower energy consumption and high-energy conversion efficiency. Enhanced video surveillance within the factory was also introduced to quickly alert workers of any quality-related issues in the manufacturing process. The improvements in Taoyuan were supported by the company's "Lean Six Sigma" strategy.

Matt LaRont, President of Isola Asia Pacific Ltd. stated, "We are pleased to be the first copper clad laminate facility to be recognized by the Taiwanese government for our "green" initiatives, which were achieved by our capital investments in the Taoyuan plant."

Earlier this year, Isola announced its full membership in the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC), a collaboration of leading electronics companies that promotes an industry Code of Conduct to address issues of social, ethical and environmental concerns in the electronics industry.
