Black & Veatch Names Matthew Lee as New Leader of Nuclear Projects Group

Maintaining and Upgrading Nuclear Facilities for Clients is Key Focus

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Oct. 15, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Black & Veatch today announced that Matthew Lee will lead the company's Nuclear Projects group. Lee succeeds Steve Rus, Senior Vice President and Executive Director of Nuclear Projects, who is retiring after 37 years with the company.

"Matt is a proven leader and has played a key role in expanding and advancing our operating plant business, which is a vital component of our nuclear growth initiative," said Dean Oskvig President and CEO of Black & Veatch's energy business. "He has a strong record of effectively working from project conception to completion in delivering high-quality results for our clients."

Prior to his new position, Lee served as Associate Vice President and Director of Operating Plant Projects. In this role, he was responsible for achieving project cost, schedule and quality objectives for operating nuclear power plant project work. Lee also was engaged in business development activities with regard to operating nuclear power facilities.

Black & Veatch provides engineering, procurement and construction services for existing and new facilities. The company works with clients to maintain and upgrade existing nuclear power plants, comply with regulations and deploy advanced technologies. Black & Veatch is currently working with clients to assess seismic and flood protection requirements in the post-Fukushima era. It also is one of only a few U.S.-based engineering and construction companies actively involved in the design and construction of an advanced nuclear facility, the Lungmen Nuclear Plant for Taiwan Power Company.

"The global nuclear industry is entering a period of profound change driven by new technology, resiliency planning and rising concern over greenhouse gas emissions," said Lee. "I am excited to work with the Black & Veatch team to help provide the insight and expertise our clients need to meet their goals for the future."
