LAS VEGAS, Nov. 17, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A Cat Hospital, located in Henderson NV, is pleased to announce an addition to its staff. Dr. Brian McAllister has joined the practice, bringing a wealth of experience to the popular veterinary office. He has been a veterinarian for the last eight years and has a particular love for the care of felines. He is greatly looking forward to serving the Henderson region.
"I am so thrilled to join A Cat Hospital," he says. "As a vet, I'm well-versed and knowledgeable regarding the health and well-being of most animals, but there's just something about cats that stands out as special. They're so mischievous and have such individual, unique personalities. I'm also looking forward to becoming acquainted with the Henderson area, which will be a nice change of pace."
Dr. McAllister was born and raised in Alabama. He received his veterinary training from the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. When asked about his choice to focus on cats, he explained that his love for felines stems back to his early childhood. "When I was 10 years old, I went through that quintessential childhood experience of rescuing an animal; in this case a kitten," he said. "Having the chance to be responsible for another living thing, for its life, just melted my heart, and I knew I was going to be a cat lover. Kittens are so delicate and there is a certain gentleness that cats possess that is simply graceful."
At the same time, he is amazed by how resilient cats are. "Felines are incredibly tough; in some ways much tougher than people," Dr. McAllister says. "They can bear a high level of pain, and they hide pain very well to protect themselves from predators. Showing pain in the wild means showing weakness, so they mask it. For them, it's a protection mechanism, but for their owners, it means a cat could be in severe discomfort and no one knows."
The veterinarian says he is frequently amazed at how strong cats are, but also feels a lot of compassion for the fact that they mask pain symptoms. "It's important to be tuned into this aspect of cat physiology in order to make sure the cat is comfortable," he says.
Dr. McAllister owns a dog and four cats himself. He is looking forward to bringing his experience and enthusiasm to A Cat Hospital.
A Cat Hospital provides a full range of feline services including critical care, boarding, dentistry and vaccinations. The staff uses lasers to perform surgery, which minimizes post-procedure pain and shortens the healing process. They are open six days a week for Las Vegas pet owners.
