EmployerDirect Launches New Web Site

Contains Information and Cost Comparisons About SurgeryPlus, a Supplemental Healthcare Benefit That Reduces the Costs of Planned Medical Procedures by 30-50 Percent Through Bundled Case Rates

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - Jan 8, 2014) -  EmployerDirect, a leader in value-based healthcare that helps large, self-insured employers provide transparency around the quality and cost of their employees' planned medical procedures, is pleased to announce the launch of its new Web site at www.edhc.com. The new Web site contains information about SurgeryPlus, a supplemental healthcare benefit that reduces the costs of planned medical procedures by 30-50 percent through bundled case rates at high-quality providers. Examples of cost savings for elective surgeries and comparisons between SurgeryPlus and traditional medical plans are also included on the Web site.

"The new EmployerDirect Web site is a resource for large, self-insured employers, human resources professionals, healthcare providers and employees to learn how SurgeryPlus can save money while helping to improve the quality of healthcare during elective surgeries," said Thomas Johnston, EmployerDirect CEO. "EmployerDirect is bettering people's lives and creating healthier companies by introducing an efficient new option to the traditional healthcare model."

SurgeryPlus is a supplemental benefit for all existing self-funded medical plans and gives each enrolled member access to a personalized care coordinator team that negotiates all costs BEFORE surgery. Care coordinators help select a SurgeryPlus provider, schedule appointments, aid in transferring medical records, manage travel logistics for patients when necessary, and supervise a member satisfaction survey. The covered procedures are mostly elective and include orthopedic, spine, cardiovascular, bariatric, general surgery and carpel tunnel surgeries.

All surgeons in the SurgeryPlus Network are required to be board certified and meet strict national selection criteria established by the EmployerDirect Medical Advisory Board. Surgery sites are selected with equally high criteria. SurgeryPlus helps patients gain access to specialty facilities and procedures are primarily performed at specialty hospitals and surgery centers, where nurse-to-patient ratios provide better service for each patient and reduce the risk of exposure to other patients with multiple medical issues. Patients at high risk for a procedure like a heart valve repair or replacement receive direct access to acute care hospitals with SurgeryPlus. EmployerDirect collects data on local hospitals, physician-owned hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers, and conducts a quality comparison analysis at each site as specific to each specialty when selecting medical centers.
