ROSEVILLE, Minn., Jan. 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Keyser Law, P.A. is a Minnesota-based criminal defense and immigration law firm that is proud to announce the launch of their new Christopher W. Keyser Scholarship program, aiming to provide financial support to students working towards a career in the legal field.

Each August, Keyser Law, P.A. will host an essay contest with $1,500 grand prize scholarship to one undergraduate student, awarded annually during the fall semester. This is a program they believe reflects the progressive core of their practice.

"We work to bring change to the criminal and immigration legal systems. We believe we can positively change our clients' lives by advocating for them during important and significant periods in their lives," says Christopher Keyser, the founder of Keyser Law, P.A. "Great students will someday make great advocates. We created this scholarship program to support that endeavor."

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in a four-year college or university program in the United States. Students must also have an interest in the legal or criminal justice fields and must major in, or be pursuing a degree in, Criminal Justice, Pre-Law, English, Political Science, Journalism or Communications.

In addition to these eligibility criteria, applicants must also write an essay with a minimum of 1,000 words but not exceeding 1,500 words, discussing one of three legal topics:

  • What is the biggest problem in the criminal justice system and what can be done to fix it?
  • Why is the student interested in the legal field and how will they use it to better their community?
  • With millions of undocumented persons living in the United States, should the U.S. Government grant legal status to these individuals or deport them?

Keyser Law, P.A. believes in supporting future advocates and aims to financially support undergraduate students through this new scholarship program.
