AAPC Certifies All Corcoran Consulting Group's Auditors

San Bernardino, California, UNITED STATES

SAN BERNARDINO, California, February 28, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Following a rigorous examination on all aspects of auditing medical records, the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) granted the prestigious Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) credential to Kevin J. Corcoran, Mary Pat Johnson, Paul M. Larson, Kirk A. Mack, and Donna M. McCune of Corcoran Consulting Group (CCG). Less than 2% of all members of AAPC have the CPMA credential - only about 2,000 in the nation. This singular achievement means that every one of CCG's auditors is certified. In addition, these consultants have demonstrated competency in other areas as well and have additional certifications such as Certified Professional Coder, Certified Ophthalmic Executive, and Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist.

"Our clients tell us that our consultants are extremely knowledgeable," said Kevin Corcoran. "Corcoran Consulting Group has consultants with clinical experience in ophthalmology, expert knowledge of billing and coding, thorough understanding of federal regulations and the requirements of an effective compliance program, many years of supervisory experience, a facility with communicating difficult concepts through teaching and publications, and the maturity and good judgment of seasoned professionals."

In an October 5, 2000 notice by the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services, it states, "…a general recommendation is that periodic audits be conducted at least once each year to ensure that the compliance program is being followed." Mr. Corcoran said, "Clearly, there is an enormous need for expert professional auditors who understands ophthalmology and optometry. We believe our certified auditors can provide that service and that our 29 years of experience support that belief."

"In our experience, we find that 39% of all claims contain errors which result in a combination of overpayments and underpayments," said Kevin Corcoran. "This poses a serious challenge for ophthalmologists and optometrists. CCG can identify and help reduce these errors and substantially improve compliance."
