Envivio Virtualized Software Powers More Than 10,000 Live Cable Channels in the United States

World's Leading Service Providers Choose Envivio Cloud Software Solutions

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Envivio (Nasdaq:ENVI), a leading provider of software-based video processing and delivery solutions, today announced that Envivio Muse™ encoding software now powers more than 10,000 live linear cable TV channels in a fully virtualized software environment, outputting nearly 33,000 live adaptive bitrate (ABR) streams delivered to millions of subscribers for multi-screen video services. This deployment—the first and largest of its kind in the industry—was launched over the past 12 months at a leading Tier 1 United States cable operator, using VMWare virtualization and Envivio video processing solutions.

Envivio's cloud software approach, designed to support both VMWare and OpenStack cloud software, provides great flexibility and elasticity, while also ensuring a robust, reliable and high quality video service. Performance in the virtual environment is not affected compared to a native hardware approach, thanks to software optimization by Envivio.

By simply deploying virtual images and running a configuration script, operators can deploy multiple headends much more quickly than a traditional hardware-based environment where there is significant cabling, staging and testing that needs to be completed before launching video services. Moreover, operators can reduce costs by converging management of various applications, including video, email and web portals using the cloud.

"This industry-first deployment with one of the largest operators in the world is indicative of the quality and feature set of Envivio software and the promise of virtualization and the cloud to further improve the video architecture," said Julien Signès, Envivio's president and CEO. "Video service providers can easily deploy Envivio software solutions in a virtualized private or public cloud environment, reducing operational costs while also simplifying upgrades and service expansion."

Envivio will showcase end-to-end cloud services, as well as latest generation Ultra HD 4K encoding at The Cable Show, a key North American cable event being held in Los Angeles, April 29 – May 1.

Envivio cloud services—encompassing virtualized encoding, packaging, digital rights management (DRM), billing, ad mediation, content delivery network (CDN) and app creation—are delivered in partnership with OTT streaming platform provider 1 Mainstream. This innovative new approach allows operators to streamline service deployment and delivery, saving on capital expenditures and radically improving time-to-market. Video delivery is currently available on mainstream consumer devices such as Apple TV, XBox, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, iOS/Android tablets, and Samsung Smart TVs.

Envivio Muse Live Ultra HD encoders utilize a unique multiprocessor software approach for real-time 4K Ultra HD HEVC (H.265) compression. Muse Ultra HD is designed to encode either one 4Kp60 (progressive video at 60 frames per second) or two simultaneous 4Kp30 video signals in HEVC format using a 2-RU Intel-based server.
