(OTCQB: APDN), (Twitter: @APDN), a biotechnology firm that provides DNA-based authentication and security solutions and services, announced today that the U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services Committee (HASC) included legislative language directing the Department of Defense to provide the Committee with an assessment of the Department of Defense counterfeit detection efforts, including the use of DNA marking on microelectronics.
Applied DNA Sciences' SigNature® DNA marking program is currently in use by several defense industry suppliers for application on certain categories of electronics deemed to be at high risk for counterfeiting.
The House committee has begun consideration of the Defense Department's fiscal year 2015 budget request, taking particular interest in Department of Defense efforts to combat the intrusion of counterfeit parts into the military supply chain.
The Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee, one of seven HASC Subcommittees, included legislative language on April 29th directing the Department of Defense to provide the Committee with an assessment of the Defense Department's counterfeit detection efforts, specifically including the use of DNA marking on microelectronics.
The language provides further that the Department of Defense will evaluate expanding anti-counterfeit measures to additional classes of technology deemed high risk, an analysis of counterfeit alerts and problem advisories in the Government Industry Data Exchange Program, and a description of Department of Defense efforts to collaborate with the defense industry on the development of standards associated with counterfeit parts risk mitigation.
