Advanced Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery, the nation's largest dermatology practice, acquires dermatology clinic in Nevada.


MAITLAND, Fla., June 2, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - ADCS Clinics ("ADCS") announced it has completed the acquisition of Bettencourt Skin Center in Henderson Nevada; a dermatology practice founded by Dr. Miriam S. Bettencourt.

Dr. Bettencourt is a board-certified fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and is in practice in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Nevada and an adjunct professor at Touro University, where she contributes to the dermatology training of medical students in Las Vegas.

She started her medical career in Brazil, where she did a residency in internal medicine and dermatology at the University of Sao Paulo. She then moved to the U.S. and completed a residency in family medicine followed by dermatology at Duke University, being the first international physician ever accepted to the Duke dermatology program. Dr. Bettencourt was also awarded as Chief Resident of Dermatology at Duke.

Subsequently, she accepted a position at the University of South Florida in Tampa, serving as an associate residency program director, head of the clinical trials division and chief of dermatology and dermatologic surgery at the Bay Pines VA Hospital, St Petersburg, Florida.

She has been the director of the Bettencourt Skin Center for the past 10 years, where she specializes in clinical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, including Mohs surgery and clinical research. She has been the principal investigator for several clinical trials and a nationally and internationally recognized speaker in different areas of the specialty, such as psoriasis, acne, eczema, actinic keratosis, skin cancers and tropical diseases.

She is an active member of the AAD, the Women's Dermatologic Society, the Noah Worcester Society, the American Society for Mohs Surgery, and the International Society of Dermatology among others. She is also the founder of the Women Physicians Medical Society of Las Vegas, the first group of female physicians of multiple specialties. Dr. Bettencourt is also an editorial board member for Skin & Allergy News and the International Journal of Dermatology.

She was selected by the AAD to represent the U.S. at the Italian Congress, the selected participant of the AAD Leadership Forum, and the physician representing the state of Nevada at past legislative conferences in Washington, DC. She has been recognized as a top dermatologist in Las Vegas. She serves the community by educating the public about skin conditions through lectures and free skin cancer screenings.
