Protegrity Unveils HDFS-Based File Encryption Technology

Dramatically Improves Transparency in Big Data Security

STAMFORD, CT--(Marketwired - Jun 3, 2014) - Protegrity, the leading provider of big data security solutions, today announced that it has developed a new security mechanism for its Big Data Protector: Extended HDFS Encryption.

This new functionality utilizes native Hadoop infrastructure to deliver transparent, on-node AES 256 file encryption within HDFS. It deepens the integration of the Protegrity Big Data Protector within the Hadoop stack, including MapReduce, Hive, Pig, and other applications, and complements Protegrity's field-level Vaultless Tokenization available for structured big data.

"We are excited to bring this new, ultra-transparent protection to Protegrity's big data security suite," said Yigal Rozenberg, Protegrity VP Product Development. "This new innovation will help companies confidently secure any data in HDFS with negligible performance impact, and seamless access for authorized users."

The Protegrity Big Data Protector meets the performance and access requirements of modern enterprises while far exceeding modern data security compliance standards. This intrinsic protection of data in Hadoop clusters essentially renders the data useless to unauthorized individuals or entities, even if they are able to penetrate perimeter defences. And as part of the Protegrity Data Security Platform, data protection controls are enterprise-ready, with a built-in separation of duties and compliant key management.
