AME BC Welcomes Environmental Assessment Approval for KSM Mine Project in BC

Granting of Certificate Builds Certainty for BC's Mineral Explorers and Developers

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - July 31, 2014) - The Association for Mineral Exploration British Columbia (AME BC) welcomes the July 29 environmental assessment approval of Seabridge Gold Inc.'s KSM mine project located in northwestern British Columbia.

BC Environment Minister Mary Polak and Energy and Mines Minister Bill Bennett issued an Environment Assessment Certificate that allows for the project to proceed. "We welcome the environmental approval of the KSM mine project," states Gavin C. Dirom, President & CEO of AME BC. "This mineral deposit is one of the world's largest undeveloped reserves of gold, copper, silver and molybdenum. Importantly, it has the potential to provide the metals we need and use on a daily basis, generate permanent employment for over 1,000 people and provide much needed mineral tax revenue to fund our province's education, health and other social services. It also demonstrates the ability of the industry to successfully explore and discover such deposits and respectfully work with governments at all levels, local First Nations and communities to plan a project that can be economically, socially and environmentally sustainable."

"The approval of the KSM mine project and the completion of the nearby Northwest Transmission Line are two important steps to ensure that our province's mineral development potential and the diligent efforts of many can lead to significant benefits for all British Columbians," notes David McLelland, Chair of AME BC. "The granting of the environmental certificate to KSM following a rigorous process further builds certainty that BC is a great place to explore for world-class mineral deposits and build new mines."
