Pittsburgh- based Allegheny Health Network and Come Ready Nutrition have established a regional partnership designed to advance sports nutrition education, concussion awareness and goal planning for competitive young athletes, scholastic athletes and their families across western Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH, Pa., Aug. 28, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Allegheny Health Network and Come Ready Nutrition announced today a regional partnership designed to advance sports nutrition education, concussion awareness and goal planning for competitive young athletes, scholastic athletes and their families across western Pennsylvania.

"Our partnership's Strong Body & Mind Initiative will offer a comprehensive and multi-disciplined educational approach that addresses both the physical and mental dynamics involved in pursuing athletic excellence," said Come Ready Nutrition President, Pat Cavanaugh.

Come Ready Nutrition will call upon the expertise of its network of sport nutrition experts as well as training professionals at a number of top college athletic programs, to educate participants on sports performance-based nutrition with the goal of enabling youth and scholastic athletes to use the latest research on sports nutrition to better fuel their athletic performances.

Come Ready Nutrition will also offer its proprietary goal education programming that instructs athletes on the importance of setting goals and implementing strategies to achieve them. It's a program that has been presented nationwide to youth sport organizations, high schools, colleges and collegiate conference student-athlete summits.

Allegheny Health Network's Division of Sports Medicine will provide concussion management education as part of the program, addressing the latest information and protocols in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of concussions. AHN sports medicine specialists will also educate participants on the latest best-practices in sports injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

The Strong Body & Mind Initiative programming will be offered to Western Pennsylvania regional youth sports organizations and scholastic athletic teams and departments. Special conferences and events will also be scheduled starting in the fall of 2014 to extend the program's reach to broader audiences.

"Allegheny Health Network is excited to collaborate with a great local company in a regionally-focused program that we believe will be of tremendous benefit to the health, well-being and success of thousands of young athletes as they pursue their athletic ambitions," said Patrick DeMeo, Chair, Allegheny Health Network Orthopaedic Institute and Medical Director, Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Organization.

Under Dr. DeMeo's direction, Allegheny Health Network's Sports Medicine Program is widely regarded as a leading source of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative care for professional and amateur athletes. The Network is one of seven healthcare providers in the country designated as a US Olympic Regional Medical Center by the United States Olympic Committee. It's also the official medical provider of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Robert Morris University, Gannon University, the Community College of Allegheny County and 20 Pittsburgh area high schools, and serves as an official medical provider of the Professional Golfers Association.

"We've been approached by potential partners on a national basis to lend our sports nutrition and goal education expertise, but this partnership with the Allegheny Health Network offers the perfect platform to assist young athletes in our own backyard to achieve their goals," said Cavanaugh. "Allegheny's renowned sports medicine expertise complements our resources to make this such a comprehensive and valuable initiative."
