Novabase Digital TV Technologies and Entropic Launch First Headless Broadcast Gateway With Home Automation Functionality in a Sleek Power Plug Form Factor

A Compact Broadcast-to-IP Bridge, the New Novabase Digital TV Technologies Gateway Also Supports Advanced Wired, Wireless and Home Automation Functionality

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, Sept. 12, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (IBC, Entropic Meeting Suite G106/G107; Hall 13) -- Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH, a company owned by Novabase, the Portuguese leader in IT, and Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, today introduced the first headless broadcast gateway bridging broadcast-to-IP video with support for wired, wireless and home automation protocols – all in an extremely compact power plug form factor. The new Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH home gateway leverages Entropic's EN7100-series of high-definition (HD) IP set-top box (STB) system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions to power the broadcast to IP stack, home networking, and home automation functions.

Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH continues to challenge traditional set-top device design and functionality with the introduction of the new home gateway. The device is the first video gateway that combines the required functions to bridge broadcast to IP video including conditional access (CA) termination and content re-encryption with flexible home networking architectures that support both wired (MoCA® or Multimedia over Coax Alliance) and wireless (WiFi®) technologies. It further adds support for home automation protocols such as Z-wave and ZigBee to control regular household systems from door locks and lights to fire alarms and in-home temperature controls.

"The new home gateway is unlike any other device on the market today," said Michael Pauli, managing director of Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH. "By partnering with Entropic, we developed a full-featured power plug gateway that enables operators to offer subscribers new, differentiated services – from advanced home networking and multi-room services with MoCA to a wide range of home automation features."

"The new home gateway from Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH shows where innovation, functionality and design intersect to empower operators to expand their set-top device offerings and add value-added services to drive new revenue streams," said Roger Gregory, vice president, Marketing, Entropic. "At Entropic, we are committed to our partners and to ensuring our SoCs are low power, highly-integrated and feature-rich to meet operators' stringent requirements."

The new gateway is powered by Entropic's EN7100 SoC family. The EN7100-series is an industry-compliant, high-performance, value-based SoC with an advanced ARM® processor with 2500 DMIPS, field-proven video decoder technology, integrated demodulator and DDR3 memory support, enhanced software and security features, and flexible network interfaces.

Availability

The new Novabase Digital TV Technologies, GmbH home gateway will be available in Q1 2015 and will be on display at IBC in Amsterdam, September 12-16, 2014, Hall 13, Meeting Suite G106/G107 at the RAI Convention Center.
