Point of Care Communication Council (PoC3) Enters Second Year With POC National Conference; Demonstrates POC Reach, Effectiveness, and ROI

ALEXANDRIA, VA--(Marketwired - Sep 16, 2014) - The Point of Care Communication Council (PoC3), representing the leaders in the point of care (POC) space, is aggressively pursuing its mission of advocating for the effective use of the POC channel to advance health and healthcare outcomes. Following the successful, inaugural POC National Conference in 2013, PoC3 will once again be co-hosting the 2nd annual Point of Care National Conference in partnership with DTC Perspectives, Inc., to be held September 30th - October 1st at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland. The 2014 conference will highlight the advances, growth and best practices in the healthcare industry's burgeoning POC channel.

PoC3 defines POC as the "healthcare setting or channel (i.e., physician office, hospital, pharmacy) through which communication can be delivered to patients and clinicians through various forms (e.g. digital, video, print) to help enhance patient engagement, education and outcomes." The conference will feature prominent experts speaking on breaking research, technology, new metrics and case studies showing the impact of POC communication.

"Our imperative is to help marketers understand the unparalleled opportunities available in POC to promote their brand attributes," said Dan Stone, CEO of AccentHealth and co-chair of PoC3. "We reach patients at a special time -- when they're laser-focused on health and wellness, making important personal healthcare decisions -- and right before they consult with healthcare professionals."

Tom McGuinness, CEO of PatientPoint and co-chair of PoC3, added, "POC marketing investments provide roughly twice the ROI than other DTC channels and brands are beginning to reallocate their marketing investments accordingly. The POC channel provides a level of targeting that other channels can't deliver, which is especially important for today's more specialized drugs and targeted patient populations."

POC has played an increasingly prominent role in life sciences in recent years, due to numerous factors including more significant patient involvement in healthcare decisions, a greater focus on healthcare outcomes, a need to reach more targeted audiences and use of novel technologies for delivering information at the point of care.

The Conference will kick off with a State of the POC Industry presentation by world-renowned life sciences consulting firm ZS Associates. ZS has been studying the size, growth, future trends, and best practices of the POC industry. ZS will be releasing the results of its study at the conference. The conference will also cover regulatory issues, case studies from marketers representing AbbVie, Allergan, & Eli Lilly, and an address from health blogger Jane Sarasohn-Kahn.

The conference will conclude with members of the PoC3 board discussing POC trends including new innovations on the horizon. The 2014-15 PoC3 board elections were recently held. Dan Stone of AccentHealth and Tom McGuinness of PatientPoint were re-elected as Co-Chairs. The other Board members are Renee Selman of Adheris, Paul Theisen of Health Media Network, Eric Jensen of Health Monitor Group, Mark Heinold of LDM Group, and Nanette Oddo of Phreesia.
