Pulse Systems Publishes Free eBook About ICD-10

Interactive Training Guide Helps Users Easily Learn About the Complexities Surrounding ICD-10 Implementation

WICHITA, Kan., Oct. 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pulse Systems, Inc., an industry-leading provider of Electronic Health Record (EHR), Practice Management and Revenue Cycle Management solutions, announced today it has published a free eBook on The International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition, Clinical Modification/Procedure Coding System, generally referred to as ICD-10. Pulse's interactive training guide breaks down coding set differences between ICD-9 and ICD-10 with easy-to-understand definitions of key terms, outlines changes in clinical documentation by specialty including clinical scenarios, and also offers an implementation guide to help physician practices identify the main areas that will be impacted by the application of the new ICD-10 coding structure.

ICD-10 is not a simple update to ICD-9. Pulse is offering the free training guide to help physician practices focus on what ICD-10 means for their particular medical specialty as they make the switch. The structural changes throughout the entire ICD-10 coding system are significant, and the increased level of complexity will not only require additional training for coders, but will also require significant coordination with physicians, billing staff, and any department in a practice that currently utilizes ICD-9. While there are similarities between ICD-9 and ICD-10, ICD-10 coding is far more specific. There are currently about 14,000 ICD-9 codes, compared to approximately 69,000 ICD-10 codes.

"Preparation is the best offense and Pulse's latest eBook, the ICD-10 implementation guide, is designed to minimize providers' concerns related to the ICD-10 conversion by thoroughly training them in advance," said Samuel S. Ambrose, Chief Marketing Officer of Pulse Systems. "Pulse's commitment to our clients and our arsenal of educational tools to make the practices we serve run more smoothly are second to none in the industry."

The International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition, Clinical Modification/Procedure Coding System (ICD-10 CM/PCS) is a medical classification list that will affect documentation and coding for everyone covered by the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), and is expected to replace the current ICD-9 as of October 1, 2015.

Pulse has successfully tested ICD-10 claims with multiple leading clearinghouses in March of 2014, and has developed many ICD-10 preparedness tools to train physician practices and their employees about ICD-10. All of Pulse's ICD-10 education tools are available via a free download.
