American College of Prosthodontists Announces 2014 Private Practice Award Winners

Honors Presented at AS14 Annual Awards and President's Dinner


CHICAGO, Oct. 30, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), through its awards program, will formally recognize five private practice prosthodontists whose contributions to the specialty or to the college are outstanding and substantial. The individuals will be honored during the 44th Annual Session of the American College of Prosthodontists in New Orleans from Nov. 5-8, 2014. More than 1,200 dental professionals will attend this event.

The ACP is proud to announce the following five recipients of the 2014 Private Practice Award:

Region 1—Northeast—Private Practice Award -- Dr. Jack Piermatti

Dr. Jack Piermatti is a board-certified Prosthodontist based in Voorhees, N.J. He is a beloved dental professional within the Prosthodontic specialty and is known for his charisma and passion, inspiring professionals everywhere. Dr. Piermatti completed his general practice residency at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center of New Jersey, implantology training at Brookdale Hospital and New York University College of Dentistry, and his post-graduate training in Prosthodontics at UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School. Dr. Piermatti is an associate professor of prosthodontics at Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine where he also is the director of the Dental Implant Maxicourse. He is vice-president and board examiner for the American Board of Oral Implantology. Dr. Piermatti lectures nationally on the subject of dental implant surgery and implant prosthodontics.

Region 2—Eastern—Private Practice Award -- Dr. Joseph B. Breitman

Dr. Joseph B. Breitman, based in Philadelphia, is an esteemed academic and an innovative Prosthodontist who excels in providing the best patient care. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Dental Medicine and Temple University's Prosthodontic Specialty Program. Dr. Breitman also received a post-doctoral master's degree in dental materials/oral biology at Temple University. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, an ACP fellow and an associate professor of the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University.

Region 3—Central—Private Practice Award – Dr. Edward M. Amet

Dr. Edward M. Amet, based in Overland Park, Kan., is an accomplished and innovative clinician and author, known for his dedication and expertise in the specialty of Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry. His ability to consistently deliver high quality care for improved patient outcomes is a truly valued asset. Dr. Amet holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Puget Sound, a doctor of dental surgery degree from Northwestern University Dental School and a master of science from the University of Missouri at Kansas City with a certificate in Prosthodontics. Dr. Amet is licensed to deliver Level II anesthesia. He placed his first dental implant in 1974. Dr. Amet is a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry.

Region 4—Rockies/Plains—Private Practice Award – Dr. Stephen A. Wagner

Dr. Stephen A. Wagner is a well-respected and highly praised Prosthodontic professional by his colleagues, students, and patients. Based in Albuquerque, Dr. Wagner provides exceptional patient care and is an innovator who has made great strides in helping the general Prosthodontic specialty. He attended dental school at the University of Southern California and completed a two-year prosthetics program at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Region 5—Pacific—Private Practice Award – Dr. Roy T. Yanase

Dr. Roy T. Yanase is beginning his 45th year on the faculty of the Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California as a clinical professor of Advanced Prosthodontic Education and Continuing Professional Education. He is past director of the New Odontic Seminar. Dr. Yanase was president of the American Board of Prosthodontics in 2008 and carries a deep involvement and passion for the field of Prosthodontics. Dr. Yanase was a member of the ACP Private Practice Section in 1982. In 2012, Dr. Yanase was honored with the ACP President's Award. His quality of care paired with exemplary expertise has made him an exceptional Prosthodontist to patients and dental professionals. Dr. Yanase graduated from USC's Ostrow School of Dentistry, where he also received a certificate in advanced training in Prosthodontics. He is board certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics.

Created in 2013, the Private Practice Award may be given annually to up to five individual Prosthodontists (one per ACP Region). These individuals must have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the Prosthodontic specialty and the role that the Prosthodontist in private practice plays in advancing the patient's quality of life.

The award is a lifetime award and an individual may receive it only once. Individuals may nominate themselves or be nominated by others. Every nomination must be accompanied by three letters of recommendation from the nominating region, including one Prosthodontist ACP member peer, one referring dentist, and one community/dental organization/leader, lab technician or patient. Prosthodontists are specialized dentists with advanced training in oral health issues, who are committed to improving patient outcomes.
