Chapman University's 37th Annual Economic Forecast to Examine U.S., California and OC Trends on Wednesday, December 3

Economists Doti and Adibi Will Examine Cautionary Indicators That May Affect the Current Recovery - And Predict What Could Move Economy Forward

ORANGE, Calif., Nov. 25, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- One of Orange County's largest and most important business events – the 37th Annual Chapman University Economic Forecast – will take place before an audience of more than 2,000 business, government and community leaders on Wednesday, December 3 at 2 p.m. in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, 600 Town Center Drive, in Costa Mesa, Calif.

Produced by Chapman's George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics and the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research, the Forecast will be presented by two leading economists – Chapman University President James L. Doti, who holds the university's Donald Bren Distinguished Chair in Business and Economics, and Dr. Esmael Adibi, director of Chapman's Anderson Center for Economic Research. The Chapman Forecast is widely used by the business community to guide in strategic planning and annual projections.

Individual tickets to the Chapman University Economic Forecast are on sale now $185 each. Visit www.chapman.edu/economic-forecast to register and purchase tickets online, or call 714-997-6841.

"New this year," says President Doti, "will be a presentation of a detailed 10-year analysis of our real GDP forecast accuracy as compared with 30 other forecast agencies.  This will be the most detailed review and comparison of our forecast accuracy that we have ever presented."

Drs. Doti and Adibi will also look at the rapid rise in home prices and tight inventory, which fueled construction spending.  That, along with a pickup in consumer spending, became a key driver of the current OC economic recovery.  But the two experts caution that home-price appreciation is slowing down, the Federal Reserve is ending its easy monetary policy, and Europe is still struggling – all factors that will influence the U.S., California and Orange County economic outlooks for 2015.

The Chapman Economic Forecast will also provide answers to the following questions and more:

  • What can power the economy forward?
  • Will the pace of job creation increase?
  • What is the outlook for interest rates?  Will higher mortgage rates dampen economic recovery?
  • What is the outlook for the commercial real estate market?
  • What are the new knowns and unknowns?

Produced by Chapman University's A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research, the Chapman University Economic Forecast is generated by the Chapman Econometric Model – an economic model of the United States, California, and Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside/San Bernardino counties – developed by Chapman economics faculty and students.

Chapman University researchers – faculty members and their students working side by side – gather historical and current economic data on a quarterly basis.  More than 200 equations are factored into the model and integrated using theoretical principles of economics and econometrics. The Chapman Model makes it possible to forecast the direction of key economic indicators, enabling the business community to make more efficient planning and investment decisions.  At the conference, the prior year's economic forecast is reviewed, and the coming year's forecast is presented.

Chapman economists -- especially Drs. Doti and Adibi -- are in demand throughout the year for their expertise, and are often called upon by the media, to act as government consultants and to make presentations regionally and nationally.
